NATIVE VIOLETS viola hederacea
- Age
- 11th September 2004 planted around shed
- 9th October 2005 planted in Southern Garden
- Where it's Growing
- We have found it grows better under a heavy canopy and it still dies off in winter. Especially in more exposed areas. It can also be burnt by very hot days.
- Upkeep
- We have to water this plant when the weather is hot and dry. It seems to hate strong fertilisers and grows well with alot of flowers if kept moist.
So it does need a bit of upkeep in summer. We have had to move this plant several times as it got too much sun.
- Growth Patterns
- It has now spread over a good sized area and the plants it entwines with seem to grow better.
It is growing well, in summer anyway.
- Dies off in winter and looks scraggly.
- Future Notes
- 27.09.06 - These plants have still not yet come back after winter. Very slow this year
- 14.10.06 - These are slowly starting to come back after winter now. Only really the ones I have been watering
- 13.8.07- The plant in the Sthn garden is doing brilliantly & spreading well. The ones around the shed are starting to die back due to lack of rain.
Even though they survived through winter after the rains earlier in the season. They need to stay moist to do well.
- 01.01.08 - These plants have never looked better. Every one of them is absolutely thriving and very thick & bushy.
We have had alot of rain & cooler humid weather which they obviously really love.
