PEACE LILLY Spathiphyllum
- Age
- Given to me as a leaving Myer present by Sue and Veronica, late April 2006
- Others put into pots early Jan 2007.
- Where it's Growing
- We have these in moderate sized pots under a fibreglass roof outside. They get very warm during the day and very bright, but not too cool or windy.
- Upkeep
- We give them alot of water every day.
- Native to tropical regions of the Americas and southeastern Asia.
- Growth Patterns
- These plants have done very well under the bright warm fibreglass roof where they are, & one is flowering on its first season.
- known to remove toxins, thereby making it an environment friendly plant.
- Excessive drying out can cause the plant to wilt and yellowing of leaves and edges.
City water should sit to allow chlorinating to evaporate. Over fertilizing can produce burning of tips and roots.
- Flowers regularly.
- Future Notes
- 15.01.07- All are growing very well
- 13.8.07- These have suffered a little during winter. The flowers went brown in patches & the leaves have lost their dark green. Some leaves have gone brown.
I have been tipping the coffee grinds into them & keeping them moist. I added cow manure & topped up their soil yesterday. So we will see how they go.
- 01.01.08 - Yesterday I moved these plants under the cover a bit more so they are right infront of the sliding dining room door.
The other lily in this darker cooler spot is doing better than the more exposed ones. So I moved the others to this spot. See how they go.
They are all doing well at the moment anyway, with plenty of flowers. It's just that the more exposed plants leaves are lighter and more yellow than the one more sheltered.
- 06.01.08- We cut all of these plants in half, literally, and repotted them all into better potting mix & decent sized pots.
We are keeping all the plants in more shady cool position close to the back sliding door, under complete cover.
The plants don't seem to have suffered from being chopped in half.
