MONDO GRASS ophiopogon japonicus
- Age
- Planted 29th May 2004. Purchased December 2001
- Where it's Growing
- Very sheltered spot surrounded in shrubs and gum trees.
- Upkeep
- Even though it is quiet sheltered. You can easily tell when it needs to be watered. Which is regularly during summer.
We throw alot of slow release fertiliser around it aswell.
- Growth Patterns
- These plants started out with one mother ship we have 'always' had in a pot. We planted it in the ground and now it has spread throughout the garden it is now in.
There is always new baby plants springing up around the main one. Grows very very well, with alot of watering.
- Native to shady forests and woodlands of Japan and Korea. Likes fertile, well drained soil, Shade to partial sun, Water when soil is dry.
- Future Notes
- I gave these alot of liquid fertiliser (26.9.06). I have never given them any before. See how they react.
- 13.8.07- These plants are now starting to spread into the surrounding garden which is great. I think they appreciated
the wet winter and all the grey water & coffee grounds we keep giving them. They are growing great!
