And still, Australia has been helping to bomb the crap out of the Afghanistan & Iraq country side - with no real effect on terrorists. Did the U.S.A invaders find any threat to world peace in Iraq, or did they just create another stumbling block to world peace? And still the U.S government continues to maintain and even increase tariffs on Australian products even though they have manipulated us into helping cause destruction around the world!!
Perhaps the billions spent on defence and "wars" on terrorism, drugs and crime be better spent on social welfare, education for all and improving the lives of ordinary citizens of the US and the world. Why do you think the U.S.A is so demanding for other countries to join their anti-drug campaigns that mostly target the poorer nations around the world? It is to throw the blame onto the actual victims. The poorer nations are not to blame for the drug problem in the U.S.A. It is the terrible living conditions in the U.S.A society!
The granting of US troops in a foreign nation immunity from prosecution by the International Criminal Court is outrageous! Why have this court if the nation that supposedly governs most peacekeeping & attacks is immune? That just doesn't make any sense.
If any military force needs governing for war crimes, it's the US forces. A good example why is the childish, selfish & inhumane threat to stop all peace keeping & foreign aid until US troops were exempt, just proves that they need to be a part of this treaty. If the US troops were doing nothing illegal then why would they be so concerned?
Any other country that acted like the US does in so many ways would be treated as an international pariah. We condemn, for example, those countries that execute criminals, and yet the US is a leading state murderer, often frying and injecting people who have most certainly not had a fair trial, and, of course, the mass murderer with the most deaths to his name was one Governor George W Bush, Texas.
The Howard Government's devotion to American power has placed the nation in
danger, according to a member of the Government's peak international
relations advisory body.
ANU International Relations expert Professor Chris Reus-Smit, a member of
the Foreign Affairs Council, today said that the Bush Administration's
reliance upon might to resolve international issues threatened the
influence of legitimate international institutions such as the United
Nations and risked a breakdown in world order.
Speaking at the launch of his book American Power and World Order at ANU
today, Professor Reus-Smit criticised the Howard Government's willingness
to stand by the US at almost every turn.
"The Bush Administration has consistently positioned itself as a lone
sheriff, using either might or wealth to implement foreign policies that it
sees as desirable," Professor Reus-Smit said.
"The Howard Government has enthusiastically offered support for this
approach and has gained international attention for its unqualified support
for US action.
"However, the world is far more complex than it has ever been before and
this concept of one world power having a sustainable influence in global
affairs is deeply flawed.
"The Howard Government's less than critical bandwagoning with the US is
blinkered to the point of being irresponsible, leaving our national policy
wide open to political manipulation and adhocery.
"The time has come for Australian policymakers, concerned academics and
members of the community to reframe the way in which we think about
contemporary world politics and American power.
"We must ask ourselves what constitutes order and security in the
contemporary world. We must address in a sober fashion the nature and
limits of American power. We must reflect on what the US can and cannot do
to foster genuine international order and security. And we must ask whether
the policies of the Bush Administration are enhancing or undermining these
goals."
Professor Reus-Smit's lecture was organised by the ANU National Institute
for the Social Sciences and Law and the ANU National Institute for the
Asia-Pacific.
The Australian Aborigine's are a very disadvantaged group of people. They were not all that long ago on the list of Australian vermin that could be hunted (true fact). Their sacred sites which today are still important to them are bulldozed over for housing developments regularly. The Aboriginal people are treated like second class when shopping, going for jobs, harassed by police & security. The Australian Federal g'ment has no Aboriginal people to make or suggest any policies for their own people.
Cops nab biggest ever dope tree
26Sep03
THE largest known marijuana plant grown in the Northern Territory of Australia has been seized by police.
The tree, 2.5m high and 2.5m wide, was found in a hydroponic set-up in a locked bedroom of a home at Anula in Darwin.
Drug Squad Superintendent said the tree was so big it took up an entire room.
The plant had been specially pruned and "terraced" along a series of wires to maximise its growth potential.
Superintendant said while it was common to come across marijuana plants strung up so they did not snap under their own weight, he had never come across such a plant before.
The man has been charged with two counts of possessing a commercial quantity of cannabis and two counts of cultivating cannabis.
Supt Evans said police had no evidence that the man had been dealing as well as growing the drug.
This man should be awarded a Horticultural award for this plant. Not given a fine for it!
