CURRY PLANT helichrysum italicum
- Age
- Planted Early 2006 X 3 around pond.
- April-May 2007 planted cuttings up the far backyard and one in a pot.
- Where it's Growing
- Two around the pond in full sun, exposed area and one in pot in an exposed spot but less sun.
- Many up the far backyard in more sheltered position.
- Upkeep
- First purchased one, covered it in mulch and watered it regularly. It died straight away. Purchased another, put 'no' mulch or
anything around it grew well. So to are the two others around the pond. These are tricky and difficult to
grow as they require very dry full sun and heat conditions.
- Growth Patterns
- Grow very very well with no water or fertiliser 'OR' mulch. They hate mulch. But they are growing very well.
- Flowers late Spring into Summer.
- Native to Turkey and thrives on dry, rocky or sandy ground on sunny slopes.
- Future Notes
- I have loved these plants ever since seeing one at my Aunty Trudy's home in Northern NSW. They actually smell like strong curry. But apparently don't taste like it.
- 12.8.07- All of these plants have really taken off now. They all have new growth and are healthy.
- 01.01.08 - Flowering and growing alot. Yesterday I had to prune most of these heavily as their new growth was scraggly. I hope they come back ok.
