CAMELLIA camellia sasanqua
- Age
- Already existed in garden. We have around 5 to 8 trees.
- Where it's Growing
- Full sun around sheds and neighbours boundary
- Upkeep
- We never do anything to these trees. We have recently though made garden beds around them and encouraged mulching.
They seem to have had a better flowering season this time around because of it.
- Growth Patterns
- Grow very well. We have even had to prune them occassionally to encourage bushing out rather than height.
- Flowers late winter.
- Native to China and Japan. Broken shade is preferred but tolerant of full sun. Needs adequate water but tolerant of drought once established.
- Future Notes
- Winter 2006 saw the Camellias flowering better than ever. The flowers also had two colours in them. White and red. They looked great!
