CAMELLIA camellia sasanqua

  • Already existed in garden. We have around 5 to 8 trees.
• Where it's Growing
  • Full sun around sheds and neighbours boundary
• Upkeep
  • We never do anything to these trees. We have recently though made garden beds around them and encouraged mulching. They seem to have had a better flowering season this time around because of it.
• Growth Patterns
  • Grow very well. We have even had to prune them occassionally to encourage bushing out rather than height.
  • Flowers late winter.
• Native to China and Japan. Broken shade is preferred but tolerant of full sun. Needs adequate water but tolerant of drought once established.
• Future Notes
  • Winter 2006 saw the Camellias flowering better than ever. The flowers also had two colours in them. White and red. They looked great!
