ARALIA fatsia japonica
- Age
- Put in big pots 20th November 2004, x 2
- First purchased November 2002
- Where it's Growing
- Under a large balcony facing East. Gets dappled morning sun only.
- Upkeep
- We have had nothing but trouble growing these tricky plants. They are prone to scale and other bugs and need constant watering and
cutting off old branches to prevent disease. They need alot of fertiliser and hate even moderate amounts of sun and hot winds.
We cut ours right back after they nearly died and transplanted them into pots and into a very shady cool position.
- Growth Patterns
- We have finally had some decent success growing these plants. They seem to be growing well after being cut right back. Fingers Crossed!
- Flowers mid Autumn, seeds mid winter.
- Native of Japan. Likes slightly acid, compost-rich soil which should not dry out. Shade to partial shade.
- Future Notes
- These have finally come back to life with a huge amount of new growth. They look great and very healthy. (18/10/06)
I put cow manure in their pots with mulch a few weeks ago which probably helped them along
- 12.8.07- I have cut these back a fair bit in mid winter, and they are really really glossy and healthy now.
